About
From East Greenbush, New York — to the heart of Rockefeller Center.
This year’s Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree carries a story close to home and straight from East Greenbush, NY.
The 2025 tree is a 75-foot-tall, 11-ton Norway spruce, lovingly grown on the Russ family’s property in Rensselaer County. Estimated to be about 75 years old, the tree has stood for generations as part of the Russ family’s landscape a quiet witness to backyard celebrations, changing seasons, and family milestones.
On Thursday, November 6, 2025, the spruce will be carefully cut and begin its 130-mile journey to New York City. By Saturday, November 8, it will rise over Rockefeller Center Plaza, glowing with 50,000 LED lights and marking the start of one of the world’s most beloved holiday traditions.
“It’s surreal to see a tree that’s been part of our lives for so long become the world’s Christmas tree,” says Judy Russ, who still lives in the family’s historic home with her 7-year-old son, Liam.
The tree’s journey from East Greenbush to Manhattan represents more than a seasonal spectacle — it’s a celebration of family, community, and the magic that can grow in small-town soil.
Even Rockefeller Center’s head gardener, Erik Pauze, was smitten at first sight: “As soon as I saw it, I knew it was perfect.” He returned several times throughout the year to care for the tree himself — a testament to the care and heart behind this year’s selection.
From East Greenbush to Rockefeller Center, the 2025 tree shines as a proud symbol of our town’s warmth, tradition, and quiet beauty proof that even the biggest stories can have the humblest roots.
